Dreamer’s Landscape: Artist Statement
The beach is more than a vacation spot, it is a mind set. In these paintings I try to capture the feeling of sand between your toes and the calming sound of the waves crashing on the shore.
Combining landscapes I see in my dreams and in my life with the texture of everyday objects, I find the inspiration for each piece. Taking an image and combining it with the elements of an old postcard or tattered vacation photograph, I am engaged to layer on paint, bringing textures out and into the scenes. Using brushes, rubber spatulas, fingers and sandpaper I work away at each piece until my vision is realized. Finally I finish them off with a wash or stain, adding age and depth.
Peaceful and restorative, like the ocean itself I try to bring on a calming effect with my work. These dreamer’s landscapes represent places deep inside my mind.
